This fox took 2 steps out of the sea dahlia forest and just laid right next to me, AMAZING!
Ron took this picture while doing weed survey on San Nicholas Island. Not many people will get to see an elfin forest of this species!
Showing how our EO looks immediately following distillation. Most species have a yellow tinge to them but this species can be clear.
Yarrow oil is part of a small number of plants in the Asteraceae family with EO that actually comes out blue following distillation. The blue is the result of a compound called chamazulene that turns blue during the steaming process. Unfortunately, the color will fade quickly with exposure to light. Keep in dark place like the fridge to sustain it.
This is a picture of one the early stills Ron used early in his to work with native species. We usually operate 2 stills, twice this size concurrently which has greatly increased our efficiency.
One of the first full loafs of soap we ever made. We have been able to increase the weight of bricks to right about 50 ounces.
One of our first bars of soap. We have only modified our recipe modestly to increase the amount of super fatting to 5%.
One of many beautiful flowers encountered while traversing CA's forests and chaparral. I hope to have a wide number of Calochortus species as time goes forward.
A horned lizard encountered during a tortoise survey east of El Centro.
